President’s Message March

Hi Everyone

I’d like to thank Frank Aguirre for his presentation last month on his “Big Tanks”. I heard that everyone enjoyed it. Our presenter on Thursday March 9th is Zack Brideau from the Kitchener Waterloo Aquarium Society (KWAS). I’m very excited to learn how to set up a saltwater tank. It’s on my list. The Jar Show classes for March are cichlids and AOV.

They say that Spring is just around the corner…well our Spring Auction on Saturday March 25th at the Waterdown Legion is just around the corner. Our club has the first auction of the spring season and it’s always a great auction. I’ve had a few inquiries for vendors tables; if you are interested please contact me.

H&DAS is also hosting the CAOAC Aquatic Expo May 19 to 21 at the Burlington Holiday Inn. Our presenters include Ian Fuller, Eric Bodrock, Regina Spotti, Lawrence Kent and Gerald Griffin. You don’t want to miss the presentations on Friday night and Saturday during the day, our banquet dinner with speaker and awards, fish shows, biotope competition, vendors, and a giant auction on Sunday. The show room and vendors tables will be open to the public throughout the weekend. (Will be closed for judging). All are welcome to the Sunday auction. Please visit hdas.ca/convention for more information or to purchase tickets.

I hope to see you at our meeting on Thursday,

Carla

President’s Message February

Hi everyone!
I can’t believe it’s February already. I’d like to thank Zenin for his great program on filtration at our January meeting. Our program on February 9 will be presented by Frank Aguirre. Frank is no stranger to large tanks and he’ll be showcasing some of his super large installations. He will also be presenting information on biotope aquarium design and how we can participate at the 2017 Aquatic Expo.

Have you signed up for the Home Show?
We will need everyone participating to register by the end of our February meeting as this presentation is for April. Everyone is able to enter, near or far, our team is willing to travel, and everyone wins a prize!

Our Spring Auction is Saturday March 25 at the Waterdown Legion. Come on out and enjoy the first weekend of spring. Come help us out as we can always use the help.

The 2017 Aquatic Expo is coming along well. Have you bought your ticket yet? Last year I bought tickets for Valentines Day as a gift. Our first raffled ticket was won by Peter DeSouza.

Hope you enjoy the meeting!

President’s Message December

Happy Holidays!

Big thank you to Ron and Annette Bishop for their program on Axolotls; we had such a great turn out at our November meeting. Let us know what programs you’d like to see in the future.

Our December meeting is a Holiday get together. Noel will be providing us with a game we can all participate in. We are providing a pizza and wing night for members. Please bring a non perishable food item for our Neighbour to Neighbour Food Drive. Sarah will be setting up a raffle table with donated items – these items do not need to be fish related. All money raised goes to Neighbour to Neighbour as well. It feels great to help out those less fortunate. Because of the festivities there is no Jar Show in December.

Our January program will be a workshop on Filters presented by Zenin from the KWAS club. Club elections will also take place. If you are interested in helping our club please come and speak with me or message me.

Our club is also hosting the 2017 Aquatic Expo at the Burlington Holiday Inn May 19 to 21. Our speaker line up includes Ian Fuller, Eric Bodrock, Regina Spotti, Lawrence Kent and Gerald Griffin. Vendors tables, auction, fish shows etc all weekend. Tell me what you’d like to see and help make it happen. Lots of information can be found on our site. PayPal is also set up on the site to make it easy to purchase your tickets.

Have a great Holiday!

Merry Christmas, Carla

It really looks nice but still cold day today. I cant wait to get working on my ponds. I love this time of year.
Our Spring Auction and Show was a huge success. We had a record 152 items in our show. I’d like to thank everyone for their help…..we can’t do it without you. Our Fall Auction is on Sat Oct 1 so be sure to mark that date on your calendar. We are currently looking for a few vendors to help complete this auction.
Our presentation on Thurs April 14 is a “Pond Presentation” presented by Sasha Hunter from Aquascape. Thank you Big Al’s and Mike for your help setting up this program. You need not be a club member to attend. We encourage everyone to come out and enjoy our monthly meetings. We have draws, raffles and a small auction.
The CAOAC convention is quickly approaching on May 20 to 22 at Fanshawe College. Please visit their website for more information.
There will not be a bulletin this month as our editor is unavailable to complete it. The HDAS team wishes Jess a speedy recovery.
